How to use a teleprompter
To use a teleprompter, load your script into a teleprompter app, set the text size and scroll speed to a comfortable pace, place the screen as close to your camera lens as you can, and start the scroll. For the most natural delivery, control the scroll from a second device so your hands and eyes stay on the camera.
Step by step
- Load your script. Paste it in or upload a file. Break long sentences into short lines so your eyes do not get lost.
- Set size and speed. Bigger text reads more naturally from a distance. Match the speed to how you actually talk.
- Place the screen by your lens. The closer the text is to the lens, the more you look like you are talking straight to your audience.
- Use a second device to control it. Drive the scroll from your phone so you are not reaching across the shot, or have a helper run it for you.
- Flip the text if you use glass. On a beam-splitter rig, mirror the text so it reads correctly in the reflection.
- Do a short read-through. Adjust speed once against a real run so the pacing feels like speech, not reading.
