The basics

Does NextPrompt use voice tracking?

No. NextPrompt scrolls at a pace you or a helper set and adjust in real time, so the scroll follows the person, not a microphone. A person stays in control.

Can I control the prompter from a different device than the one I read from?

Yes. Open the Display link on your reading screen and the Control link on your phone, and they stay in sync in real time.

Do I need to install anything?

No. NextPrompt runs in any modern browser on any device. The reading screen and the control device both just open a link.

Does NextPrompt record video?

No. NextPrompt is a teleprompter, not a recorder. It scrolls your script on the screen you choose while you record with your own camera, phone, or software.

Can I use it with a teleprompter rig?

Yes. Flip the text horizontally or vertically to read it correctly through beam-splitter glass on a standard teleprompter rig.

Pricing

Is the free plan really usable?

Yes. Free gives you Control and Display links, real-time sync across devices, and password protection: a working two-screen teleprompter you can run a real read on.

What does the Event Pass cover?

One Event, with unlimited Scripts inside it, fully unlocked for 30 days. Ideal for a single conference, shoot, or service when you do not need it year round.

Do you charge monthly?

No. NextPrompt is a one-time Event Pass or a flat yearly plan. There is no monthly subscription.

What happens if I stop paying?

Your Scripts are never deleted. If Pro lapses, saved work beyond the free limit locks until you renew. Nothing is lost.

Free online teleprompter

Is it really free?

Yes. NextPrompt is free to start: the free plan is a working two-screen teleprompter with Control and Display links, real-time sync, and password protection. Paid unlocks cover long scripts and unlimited Events, never the core two-screen setup.

Is there a watermark?

Unlocked events run with no watermark. On the free plan, the shared reading screen carries a small NextPrompt wordmark in the corner.

Do I need an account?

Not to try it: the live demo opens with just your email. The full app uses a free account so your Scripts are saved and shareable.

How do I save my scripts?

Open the full NextPrompt app, free to start. Scripts save into Events, keep their own size and speed settings, and can be shared with Control and Display links.

Speakers and keynotes

How does a speaker read without looking down?

The script sits on a stage-facing confidence monitor near your eye line, scrolling as you speak. You glance at it the way you would glance at notes, but your face stays up and toward the audience.

Can someone else drive the scroll for me?

Yes. Hand the Control link to a helper backstage. They start, pause, and pace the scroll in real time while you focus on the room.

What do I need for a stage confidence monitor?

Any screen a browser can reach: a TV at the foot of the stage, a monitor on the floor, or a laptop on a stand. Open the Display link on it and it shows clean scrolling text and nothing else.

Church and worship

Can we run it from the sound booth?

Yes. Open the Control link on any device at the booth, a laptop, a tablet, or a phone, and drive the scroll from there. The stage screen follows in real time.

Is it volunteer-friendly?

Yes. There is nothing to install and nothing to configure on the day. A volunteer opens a link, presses play, and nudges the speed up or down.

Does it work alongside our presentation software?

Yes. NextPrompt runs in its own browser window on its own screen, so it sits beside whatever you use for lyrics and slides without touching it.

Video production

Does it work with a teleprompter rig?

Yes. Mount the display device behind the beam-splitter glass and flip the text horizontally or vertically so it reads correctly in the reflection.

Can I control it from behind the camera?

Yes. Open the Control link on your phone or laptop at the camera position. Start, pause, and speed changes reach the talent's screen in real time.

Does NextPrompt record the video?

No. NextPrompt is the prompter, not the recorder. You capture with your own camera, phone, or software while it scrolls the script.

Webinars and exec comms

Can a producer drive the scroll for the presenter?

Yes. The producer opens the Control link and the presenter just reads. Start, pause, and speed all happen from the producer's device in real time.

Does it work during a live webinar or call?

Yes. The prompter is a browser window near your webcam, separate from your webinar tool. It never appears in the call unless you share that window.

Can I share scripts with my team?

Yes. The Scripts live in an Event, and the Control and Display links open in any browser. Password-protect either link and pass it to exactly the people who need it.

Livestream and OBS

Does it work beside OBS?

Yes. NextPrompt runs in a browser window on any screen near your lens, completely separate from OBS. It stays out of your scenes unless you deliberately add that window as a source, and there is no plugin to install.

Can I control it mid-stream from my phone?

Yes. The Control link on your phone starts, pauses, and re-paces the scroll in real time, so you can go off script for chat and pick the thread back up cleanly.

Is it free for streamers?

Yes. The free plan is a working two-screen teleprompter, and the live demo opens with just an email.

iPad

Does NextPrompt need an iPad app?

No. NextPrompt runs in Safari or any modern browser on your iPad. You open a link instead of installing an app, so there is nothing to download and nothing to update.

Can I use an iPad behind a teleprompter rig?

Yes. Mount the iPad behind the beam-splitter glass and flip the text horizontally or vertically in NextPrompt so it reads correctly in the reflection.

Can I see the script while filming with my phone?

Yes. Put the Display link on a second screen near the lens, a tablet or laptop works well, and control the scroll from another device or have a helper drive it.

Is it free to use with CapCut?

Yes. The free plan is a working two-screen teleprompter, and the live demo opens with just an email.

What is a teleprompter

What does teleprompter mean?

A teleprompter is a device or app that shows a script as scrolling text near a camera lens or in a presenter's line of sight, so the speaker can read while appearing to speak naturally to the audience.

How does a teleprompter work?

The script scrolls on a screen at a controlled pace. On studio rigs, angled glass reflects the screen over the lens, with the text mirrored so it reads correctly. Software teleprompters do the same job on a phone, tablet, or monitor.

Can I use a teleprompter for free?

Yes. NextPrompt is free to start: a working two-screen teleprompter with Control and Display links and real-time sync. The live demo opens with just your email, no account needed.

How a teleprompter works

Do I need special hardware for a teleprompter?

No. A browser teleprompter works on any screen near your lens. Hardware rigs with mirrored glass put the text directly over the lens, which helps for broadcast-style eye contact, but they are optional.

Why is teleprompter text mirrored?

On rigs that reflect the screen in angled glass, the reflection reverses the image. The text is flipped at the source so it reads correctly in the glass.

What controls the scroll speed?

It depends on the tool. Fixed auto-scroll runs at a set speed, voice tracking tries to follow your speech, and operator-driven tools like NextPrompt let you or a helper set and adjust the pace in real time.

Teleprompter vs autocue

Is an autocue the same as a teleprompter?

Yes. They are two names for the same tool: a display of scrolling script text a presenter reads while looking at the camera or audience. Teleprompter is the common American term, autocue the common British one.

Why does the UK say autocue?

Autocue is a British prompting brand whose name became the generic word in the UK, the same way the TelePrompTer brand became the generic word in the US.

Can I use an autocue online for free?

Yes. A browser teleprompter is an autocue without the hardware. NextPrompt is free to start: a working two-screen setup in any browser, and the live demo opens with just your email.

Stream Deck control

Do I need a Stream Deck plugin for NextPrompt?

No. Stream Deck's built-in Website / System: Open action fires a URL, and every NextPrompt control action is a URL. There is nothing to install on either side.

What can a Stream Deck key control on the prompter?

Play, pause, restart to the top of the current Script, an exact scroll speed from 0 to 5, or a small speed nudge up or down, the same nudge as the on-screen arrows.

Is it safe to put the control URL on a shared device?

The share id in the URL is what grants control, so anyone with the URL can drive the prompter. Keep it on hardware you trust, add a password to the link in the Share panel, and regenerate the link in the Share panel to revoke it; the old URL stops working immediately.

Companion control

Does NextPrompt have a Companion module?

It does not need one. Companion's Generic HTTP module covers it, because every NextPrompt control action is a plain GET URL. There is nothing to install and no API key to manage.

What actions can Companion fire?

Play, pause, restart to the top of the current Script, an exact scroll speed from 0 to 5, or a speed nudge up or down. Add the password parameter if the Controller link is protected.

Can the prompter operator and Companion both drive?

Yes. Actions interleave and the last one to land wins. For a single automated driver that is seamless; with a live operator too, agree on who is pacing which segment.

vMix control

Does NextPrompt integrate with vMix directly?

There is no plugin and none is needed. NextPrompt is a browser teleprompter that runs beside vMix, and its control actions are plain GET URLs that vMix Scripting and shortcuts can fire.

Can I show the prompter through vMix?

The Display link opens in any browser, so you can put it on any screen a vMix machine feeds. Most operators simply open it on the monitor or tablet at the lens.

What actions can vMix trigger?

Play, pause, restart to the top of the current Script, an exact scroll speed from 0 to 5, or a speed nudge up or down. Add the password parameter if the Controller link is protected.

OBS setup and control

Does NextPrompt need an OBS plugin?

No. The prompter runs in a browser window beside OBS, or in a standard OBS browser source if you want it on a monitoring output. Automation uses plain GET URLs that existing OBS tooling can fire.

Will my stream see the teleprompter?

Not unless you put it there. In its own browser window it is invisible to OBS. As a browser source it appears only in scenes and outputs you add it to, so keep it off your program scenes.

Can OBS start and stop the scroll automatically?

Yes, through any OBS-side tool that can fire a web request, such as an obs-websocket script or the Advanced Scene Switcher's web-request action, pointed at the play and pause control URLs. Add the password parameter if the Controller link is protected.

Best free teleprompter

What is the best completely free teleprompter?

It depends on what "free" needs to include. NextPrompt's free plan is a working two-screen teleprompter with real-time sync and password protection; long scripts and unlimited Events are the paid part. Most other tools' free tiers add a watermark, cap length or sessions, or limit their headline feature, per their own pricing pages as of August 2026.

Do free teleprompter apps add watermarks?

Several do, on recordings or on the prompter screen itself; check each vendor's own site for its current policy. On NextPrompt's free plan the shared reading screen carries a small NextPrompt wordmark; unlocked events run with no watermark.

What does NextPrompt not do?

It does not record video, it has no voice-activated scrolling, and it has no AI features. It is a teleprompter a person drives, with the reading screen and the controls on separate synced devices.

Best teleprompter app

What is the best teleprompter app overall?

There is no single best; there are different jobs. For live delivery with a person pacing the scroll, use an operator-driven browser tool like NextPrompt. For recording yourself, a recording-first app fits better. For hands-free solo work, pick a voice-tracking tool.

Do I need to install a teleprompter app?

Not necessarily. Browser teleprompters like NextPrompt run on any device with a modern browser, so the reading screen and the remote are both just links. Native apps make sense when you want in-app recording or platform-specific hardware output.

Which teleprompter apps are free?

Most tools here have a free tier with limits stated on their own pricing pages, watermarks and caps being the common ones as of August 2026. NextPrompt is free to start: a working two-screen teleprompter, with long scripts and unlimited Events as the paid part.

Open a teleprompter in your browser

Free to start. No install, no app, no card. Paste your script, open it on the screen you read from, and control the scroll from another device.
